ReGenesis -- the OTHER Ellen as babydyke

Discovery's Science channel is mainly documentaries, like How It's Made or How Did They Do It?, but every once in a while they decide to stir in a little science fiction, usually Firefly  marathons.  This year they are adding in the rebroadcast of a Canadian series that lasted from 2004 to 2008, ReGenesis.  Over its 4 seasons the series began with somewhat X-Filey episodes with cloned kids and a genetically engineered killer virus from which the movie Contagion stole its plot.  It also had an episode on the "gay bomb" that would spray an enemy army with pheromones thereby making them at least temporarily gay, as well as the possibility of a prenatal test to identify your fetus's gay gene and allow for anti-gay eugenic abortion (the topic Ann Coulter was unfairly slapped for last month by gay leftover bots when she warned about this dystopian prospect on an episode of the A-List Dallas.)

One of the fun things about ReGenesis is that it features a young tomboyish Ellen Page, long before her riot grrlll days in Whip It (2009) or her feminist blow for Sheila Kuehl's Zelda in Juno (2007) where she outdid both Dobie Gillis and The Fonz in the competition for the coolest teen who ever existed.  Ellen, with a bad bowl haircut, plays a Nancy Drewish teen whose dad is the main scientist in the series.

The look is interesting since the blogosphere is always atwitter about whether la Page is or is not a real thespian, egged on by her doing things like kissing co-star Drew Barrymore for promotional photos.
